Forest protection and planting Since many years, Sabina and Johannes support a forest project in Petén, Guatemala. The land consists of approximately 80 ha; half of the land carries an ancient forest, which is today unique in an area, where within one generation, almost all forest have been destroyed thru slash and burn practice. About 30 ha of the land is covered by a young forest, that was able to regenerate itself thru the protection measures. 5 ha have been professionally reforested. The project can only be maintained because of generous donations. 100% of all donations go directly into the project. Sabina and Johannes, as well as their Guatemaltecan Partners work for the project on a honorary and non-paid basis. The yearly costs of the project amount to approximately 15’000.- $ US.
